Adani Wilmar to double capacity of its refinery

Adani WilmarAdani Wilmar, famous for its best-selling edible oil brand Fortune, would double the capacity of its Haldia based utility to 1,600 tonnes per day by December 2009. The company, with total worth of Rs 6,000 crore, would invest Rs 100 crore for the project to complete it by 2012.

Adani Wilmar CEO, Atul Chaturvedi said, "We are in the process of enhancing the Haldia unit's capacity from the existing 800 tonnes per day. We acquired nearly 8 acres of additional land adjacent to the existing unit spread over 9 acres for the same."

Mamata vows to bring down Left Front on Nandigram police firing anniversary

Mamata BanerjeeHaldia, Mar 14: On the first anniversary of the Nandigram police firing in which at least 14 villagers were killed, Trinamool Congress chief Mamta Banerjee on Friday vowed to bring down the Left Front.

Villagers were killed at Nandigram village on March 14 last year after police fired on opponents of a planned industrial park. It was the worst violence yet over government plans to acquire farmland for a low-tax industrial development area, or Special Economic Zone (SEZ), at Nandigram.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee distributes land to Nandigram villagers

Haldia, Mar 4: Buddhadeb BhattacharjeeWest Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Tuesday doled out largesse by distributing land to villagers in Nandigram that has witnessed large scale violence related to a land row over an industrial hub.

"Today we are distributing 224 acres of huge land. Pieces of land have been distributed to 1483 farmers. I myself have handed over to five people and the rest of them would be distributed from the administrative camp set up for the program," said Bhattacharjee, while addressing a public rally in Nandigram.
