In the last five days in Modassa taluka of Sabarkantha region, the lethal hepatitis D virus has taken lives of 12 people and left 26 hospitalized.

According to officials, out of 26 admitted to various hospitals in the region, five been rushed to the civil hospital in Ahmedabad.

Dr. H F Patel, chief district health officer, on Friday, said, “A central team from the National Institute of Communicable Diseases and Director General of Health Services (NICD & DGHS) will arrive soon to take stock of the situation.”

Ahmedabad, Feb 13 : The police custody of Valsad Deputy Superintendent of Police K G Erda, who was arrested in connection with his role in the 2002 Gujarat riots, ends today.

On February 9, Erda was remanded in police custody till today.

Metropolitan Magistrate C. B Patel passed the order after a Special Investigating Team (SIT) submitted a report of its investigation.

Erda was an inspector at the Meghaninagar police station during the riots.

Surat, Feb 11 : A bridge connecting various industries in Surat was damaged after being hit accidentally by four ships on Wednesday.

The Magdalla-Hazira bridge on the Tapti river in the state bore the brunt of the collision after four ships of the AGB shipyard hit it.

No casualties were reported in the incident that took place at around 3:00 a. m.

The authorities have stopped the flow of traffic while the investigation is on.
