Rwandan president visits German jail to meet aide

Paul KagameFrankfurt - Rwandan President Paul Kagame entered a German prison Tuesday to speak in a visiting area with his senior aide Rose Kabuye, who is being held on suspicion of murder.

She was upbeat and ready to face the French investigators, Kagame said after leaving the women's jail near Frankfurt.

Kabuye was arrested Sunday as she arrived in Germany to prepare for Kagame's arrival the following day.

The president was invited to Germany by the Frankfurt Stock Exchange company. Kagame gave a lecture to German business people Monday evening. He did not meet with German officials. Berlin says his visit is legally a private one.

Rwandan official agrees to extradition to France

congoFrankfurt - A senior Rwandan official, Rose Kabuye, 47, who has been detained in Germany, has agreed to her extradition to France on murder and terrorism charges, a Frankfurt justice official said Monday.

Kabuye is chief of protocol to Rwandan President Paul Kagame and a leader of the Rwandan Patriotic Front. She was detained on Sunday when she arrived at the German city's airport.

At a first hearing, she agreed to a fast-track extradition, German public prosecutor Hildegard Becker-Toussaint said in Frankfurt.

Kabuye was being held in a women's prison in Frankfurt.

German union suspends strike action for higher pay

German engineering workers strike for higher pay Frankfurt  - Germany's IG Metall ended a week of token strikes for an 8 per cent pay rise on Friday as employers urged the engineering union to lower its demands.

"Job security has to take precedence over a distribution of (wealth) in pay negotiations for the year ahead," said Stefan Roell, head of the employers association in the south-west of Germany.
