Cairo - The US embassy in Egypt on Tuesday told its citizens to be more cautious after a series of attacks in an area popular with tourists last month, saying that further attacks could be planned.
On February 22nd, a bomb exploded in the 1,500-year-old Khan al- Khalili bazaar killing a French tourist and wounding 21 others. Several days later an American teacher was attacked by a man with a knife.
Sharm al-Sheikh, Egypt - As the sun set over the mountains ringing the Egyptian resort city of Sharm al-Sheikh on Monday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had reason to feel gratified.
Delegates from 75 donor countries pledged some 4.48 billion dollars over the course of a conference on the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip after Israel's 22-day offensive in late December and January.
World leaders praised Abbas and Acting Prime Minister Salam Fayyad as "responsible partners." They stressed that they would take pains not to deliver the aid to Abbas' Palestinian rivals in Hamas, who have controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007.
Sharm al-Sheikh, Egypt - US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday said the US was committed and she was "passionate" about building a lasting peace in the Middle East that is based on a two-state solution.
She was speaking at the end of an international donor conference for the Gaza Strip that was held in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm al-Sheikh.
"We are committed to a two-state solution," Clinton told journalists. "I feel passionate about this ... it's not just part of my portfolio."
Sharm al-Sheikh, Egypt - World leaders who gathered for a donors conference in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm al-Sheikh on Monday urged swift action to rebuild the battered Gaza Strip, and pledged billions of dollars in reconstruction aid.
By Monday afternoon, donors came close to exceeding the 2.8 billion dollars in aid that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had requested.
Persian Gulf states Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar pledged 1.6 billion dollars, and said they would set up an office to handle the donations so the aid would not pass through either the Palestinian National Authority or Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007.
Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt), Mar. 2 : US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hopes to sideline the Hamas by proposing an aid package of over 900 million dollars for moderate Palestinians.
According to Politico, out of this 900 million dollars, only 300 million dollars will be earmarked to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza.
