Sea water reverse osmosis plant to be established in Chennai

ChennaiNew Delhi, Jan 2 : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for the construction of one ''100 MLD Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant'' at Nemmeli near Chennai at a total cost of Rs. 908.28 crore.

Of the total amount, Rs. 871.24 crore will be borne by the Central Government and will be given as grant to the Government of Tamil Nadu for implementing the aforesaid project.

Government negotiating with kidnappers of Indian worker in Afghanistan: Ravi

Vyalar Ravi Chennai, Dec. 26 : Union Minister for Indian Overseas Affairs Vyalar Ravi today assured that the government was doing everything for the safe release of an Indian worker abducted in Afghanistan.

As the deadline to give ransom for release of the Simon Paramnathan ends on Friday, Ravi held over an hour-long meet with Tamil Nadu Chief minister M. Karunanidhi in Chennai at his Gopalapuram residence.

Vyalar Ravi after his meet with the Tamil Nadu CM, said that Chief Minister Karunanidhi wanted to ensure Simon''s safe and immediate release from the captivity of abductors in Afghanistan.

Transgenders showcase their talent in Chennai

Tamil NaduChennai, Dec 25 : The Tamil Nadu AIDS Initiative and Voluntary Health Services (TAI-VHS) brought about 20,000 transgenders and marginalized women together to showcased their talents.

The transgenders had recently showcased their talents by performing Bharatanatyam and folk dances.

The newly formed federation aims at empowering their community and making them self-reliant in the society.
