Centre seeks report on Assam serial blasts

Assam, GuwahatiNew Delhi, Oct 30 : The Union Home Ministry has sought an immediate report from the Assam Government on serial blasts, in which at least 26 people are feared dead and over 100 injured.

Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta spoke to Assam Chief Secretary P. C. Sharma, saying the situation was being closely monitored.

The Ministry is keeping a constant watch on the situation, Madhukar Gupta said.

President Patil condemns Assam serial blasts

Pratiba PatilNew Delhi, Oct 30 : President Pratibha Patil today condemned the series of bomb blasts that took place in Assam in which at least 26 people are feared dead and over 100 injured.

In her message, Patil said, "Such acts are condemnable and there is no place for violence in our society. At this moment all of us should stand united against divisive forces in the country.

At least four blasts were reported from Guwahati and five in Kokrajhar District.

54 killed in serial bombings in India's Assam state

Guwahati, AssamNew Delhi - At least 54 people were killed and more than 200 injured Thursday in 11 bomb blasts triggered by suspected separatist militants in India's north-eastern state of Assam, officials and news reports said.

Officials said there were 11 blasts within 20 minutes, the first at 11:20 am (0550 GMT).

Four blasts took place in the state capital, Guwahati; three in Barpeta district; three in Kokrajhar district; and one in Bongaigaon district, all in western Assam, the IANS news agency reported.

ULFA may be behind serial blasts says Assam Government

Assam, GuwahatiGuwahati, Oct 30 : The Assam government on Thursday said that the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) may be behind today’s serial blasts in the state, adding that it was too early to reach a conclusion.

Minutes after the explosions, Assam''s Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told reporters, "It is very early to make a conclusion but ULFA has a history of triggering serial blasts."

Sarma said the objective of triggering the blasts in crowded places was to claim maximum lives.

11 feared dead, 50 injured in Assam serial blastsGuwahati, Oct 30 : At least 11 persons died and 50 injured in at least 11 serial blasts in Guwahati and Upper Assam this afternoon. All the blasts are said to have taken place within a span of 15 minutes.

According to official sources, one of the blasts took place in front of the Kamrup district deputy commissioner''s office in Guwahati. Two other bombs exploded at Ganeshguri and Fancy Bazaar areas. A yet other blast took place in Barpeta district and two explosions occurred in Bongaigaon area.

Five killed in serial blasts across India's Assam state

AssamNew Delhi - At least five people were killed and 50 injured in a series of 10 bombings that rocked India's north-eastern state of Assam on Thursday, news reports said.

Several blasts targeted crowded market areas and a court complex in the state's main city of Guwahati, the IANS news agency reported.

There were 10 blasts in all including explosions in Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta areas, the report said.

Several militant outfits with demands ranging from autonomy to secession are active in the north-eastern state.
