Amritsar, Feb 16 : To mark the Saka Nankana Sahib anniversary on February 21, a Sikh Jatha (group) comprising nearly 150 devotees left for Pakistan this morning.
Chatin Singh, Former MP and member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) is leading the Jatha.
The event is being held to commemorate the anniversary of a movement launched in 1920 to free Gurdwaras from the control of Mahants who were supported by the British.
Singh said that this is for the first time that an SGPC-led Jatha is going to Pakistan to mark the Saka Nankana Sahib anniversary.
Amritsar, Feb. 5 : Amritsar recently hosted the second Punjabi Film festival which was attended by eminent Punjabi artists who used this opportunity to promote Punjabi films.
An idea conceived a year ago by prominent film lover Navtej Sandhu, it has now evolved into a major platform to encourage Punjabi films.
The second edition of the festival showcased this fact and much more when it was organized under the aegis of Sur-Saanjh Productions promoted by a group of Punjabi film fans here recently.
Their aim was to promote the Punjabi language and culture through films that have received good reviews in India and abroad.
Amritsar, Jan. 21 : Sukhbir Singh Badal, the son of of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab on Wednesday.
Punjab Governor General (retired) S F Rodrigues administered the oath of office and secrecy to Singh at a ceremony here.
Several senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders were present on the occassion.
They included BJP president Rajnath Singh and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundra Raje Scindia.
This is probably the first instance when a father-son duo will be sharing the top two posts of a state India.

Amritsar, Jan. 12 : Vice President M. Hamid Ansari on Monday said that Indians live in a plural society and should cherish their cultural heritage and diversity.
In a speech delivered after inaugurating the 14th National Youth Festival here, Ansari said this diversity presents itself in terms of regions, languages, religions, food habits and in a multitude of other ways.
"Yet each of these is Indian and is equally authentic. The challenge, then, is to think Indian and act Indian within the framework of this unity and diversity," he added.
