Sonepat (Haryana), Mar 1 : United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Sunday laid the foundation stone of a women's medical college in the Bhagat Phool Singh University campus in Khanpur Kalan, Haryana.

She also unveiled a statue of Bhagat Phool Singh on the occasion.

A large number of armed police and security personnel were deployed for the visit.

Duty magistrates monitored the law and order situation.

Sonepat, February 28 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi will lay the foundation stone of a medical college for women in Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya at Khanpur Kalan village of Sonepat on Sunday.

She will also unveil the statue of Bhagat Phool Singh in the campus.

Gandhi was scheduled to visit the village on February 9, but her visit was cancelled on account of the sudden death of Ranbir Singh Hooda, a veteran freedom fighter and father of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Port Blair, Feb 28 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi will visit the Andaman islands of Car Nicobar and Cambell Bay where she will unveil a statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at Indira Point.

Before leaving for New Delhi, Gandhi will also hand over the keys of permanent shelters to tsunami-affected persons near Car Nicobar Airport, re-emphasizing the UPA Government''s pledge to rehabilitate and improve the lives of people affected by natural calamites.

Kandi (Hyderabad), Feb 27: UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today said that science and technology must act as powerful force against narrow-minded bigotry and intolerance.

Addressing a gathering of students and delegates after laying the foundation stone of a new IIT at Kandi village in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh, Sonia said, "Education should impart the values of a modern liberal society that derive strength by respecting and celebrating it''s many diversities."

Sonia also said that given time and adequate resources, IIT Medak would also make its own impact.

The Karnataka High Court on Thursday dismissed a public interest litigation filed by Belle Ravivarma against the Union government for carrying photographs of UPA president Sonia Gandhi in its advertisements.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice PD Dinakaran and Justice SR Bannurmath dismissed the PIL, observing: “There is no virtue in criticising the leadership of an individual as political sycophancy. There is no sin in acknowledging the leadership of a political or national leader.”
