Joshi's 'handy' defence of Varanasi's Congress candidate

murli-manohar-joshiVaranasi, May 12 : Beleaguered Congress candidate from Varanasi, Ajay Rai, Monday received surprise support from veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi.

Terming the pinning of a "hand" symbol by Rai while going to cast his vote as a "small issue," the former union HRD minister said not much should be made out of such incidents.

When told his party, the BJP, had lodged a formal complaint against Rai with the Election Commission, Joshi, the incumbent MP from Varanasi and now contesting from Kanpur, said in such a scenario should the hands of people be chopped off while going to polls.

Sriprakash-JaiswalKanpur, March 22 : Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal Saturday dared BJP candidate Murli Manohar Joshi, who is pitted against him in the Kanpur Lok Sabha constituency, to prove corruption charges against him or quit politics.

Incensed at the attack by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader who called Jaiswal a "ghotalebaaz (scamster)", the minister said such irresponsible statements did not behove senior leaders like Joshi.

"If such senior leaders speak in this language, they should back it up with proof or else should quit active politics," Jaiswal told reporters here.

UPA should correct its economic policy: Joshi

M-M-JoshiNew Delhi, March 13 : BJP member M. M. Joshi Wednesday criticised the Congress-led UPA government's "growth with equity" policy, saying growth was meaningless if it did not result in better healthcare, education and jobs.

The veteran leader asked the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government to "correct" its economic fundamentals.

"Does high GDP (gross domestic product) indicate growth? Your policy of growth with equity is not right," Joshi said while initiating the debate on the general budget in the Lok Sabha.

"Correct your fundamentals," he said.

“It is highly surprising that Congress is silent on Nandigram. Just because CPI-M is backing UPA government at the Centre, it is improper to forgive its cadre as Nandigram was made a war zone,” Joshi said.

The motion seeks suspension of the Question Hour today to allow discussion on the Nandigram issue.
