India, China looking for much wider engagement: Ansari

Mohammad Hamid AnsariBeijing: India and China are working on developing a much wider engagement as the two neighbours have chosen the "wise way" of living with each other, Vice President Hamid Ansari said today. He said as India and China discover commonality of interest in various fields, they are looking for ways to further their relationship.

Referring to the presence of nearly 10 thousand Indian students in China and 50 companies operating here, Ansari said this is the beginning of a much wider engagement which India looks forward to.

Mohammad-Javad-ZarifNew Delhi, Feb 28 : Iran External Affairs Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is on a two-day visit to India to boost mutual cooperation on energy, port and transit of goods, met Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari here on Friday.

Zarif is in India to hold bilateral talks as well as regional and international issues with the country's officials during his visit.

The two nations will boost cooperation in the fields of oil and banking.

Hamid Ansari launches Indian Chambers of Commerce in Peru

Hamid-AnsariLima, Oct 29 : Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari has launched the Indian Chambers of Commerce (INCHAM) in Lima to facilitate Indian trade and industry in doing business in Peru and other Latin American countries.

The launch was at a function Monday organised by the Indian embassy here and INCHAM. Among those present on the occasion were Indian ambassador Manpreet Vohra, INCHAM president Ravi Krishna and senior officials and business leaders from India and Peru.

The INCHAM website - www. incham. pe - was also launched on the occasion.

There are questions about media credibility, says Ansari

hamid-ansariAligarh, June 15 : India has every reason to be proud of the strength and diversity of its mass media, Vice President Hamid Ansari said Saturday.

But from time to time there have been disconnecting developments that do raise questions about the media's objectivity and credibility, he said here.

These included cross-media ownership, the phenomenon of 'paid news', media ethics, the need for effective self-regulatory mechanisms, declining role of editors and their editorial freedom, and the need to improve the working conditions of media personnel, he said.

Vice president visiting Tajikistan April 14-17

hamid-ansariNew Delhi, April 13 : Vice President Hamid Ansari is to pay a four-day official visit to Tajikistan from Sunday, the first by an Indian vice president to the Central Asian country with which India shares close strategic ties.

Ansari will hold talks with the prime minister and the defence, trade and foreign ministers during his stay and visit Nurek in Khatlon province where the Nurek dam, considered the tallest in the worls, is situated. He will also visit the Tajik Technical University where India has set up a modern engineering workshop that was inaugurated in 2011.

AIADMK and DMK members raised the issue soon after the house met for the day.

DMK member Tiruchi Siva said "harassment" of Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy was an "ongoing affair" and six such incidents had occurred over the past month.

"Some MPs met me and informed me that T. N. Seema was manhandled by the Delhi Police. This is a serious matter related to dignity of the member," Ansari said.

Ansari reached Gaborone Saturday and held delegation level talks with his host, Botswana Vice President Momfati Merafhe, a former army officer who got military training in India.

They signed two agreements in agriculture and education.

Ansari's engagements on the last day of his seven-day African trip was a tour of the facilities of the Diamond Trading Co and addressing the Indian community.(IANS)
