Central Police Forces to remain in Nandigram till Panchayat Polls

Buddhadeb BhattacharjeeKolkata, March 06: West Bengal Home Secretary P R Roy asked the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to remain at Nandigram until the West Bengal Panchayat elections which are scheduled to be held in May.

The CRPF personnel were deployed at Nandigram initially for three months on November 12, 2007.

Of the five companies (about 500 personnel) sent by the Centre, three remain besides a company of the Indian Reserve Battalion.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee distributes land to Nandigram villagers

Haldia, Mar 4: Buddhadeb BhattacharjeeWest Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Tuesday doled out largesse by distributing land to villagers in Nandigram that has witnessed large scale violence related to a land row over an industrial hub.

"Today we are distributing 224 acres of huge land. Pieces of land have been distributed to 1483 farmers. I myself have handed over to five people and the rest of them would be distributed from the administrative camp set up for the program," said Bhattacharjee, while addressing a public rally in Nandigram.

Ghising arrives in Kolkata to meet Buddhadeb

Kolkata, Feb 23: West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb BhattacharjeeSubash Ghising, the leader of the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) and administrator of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) is scheduled to meet West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee here today.

Ghising was confined to Pintail Village, a resort three km from Siliguri, for the last five days since Monday by Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) activists.

Jyoti Basu supports West Bengal CM's stand on capitalism

Kolkata, Jan 5 : Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) veteran Jyoti Basu on Saturday supported West BengalCPI(M) logo Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's policy of welcoming private capital in the State for industrialisation purpose.

Basu said that socialism was not achievable at this point of time.

"We have been working within the capitalist system and private capital has to be used while social welfare programmes by the state government would continue," Basu told reporters here.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee visits Nandigram

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb BhattacharjeeNandigram, Dec 26: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, visited Nandigram, which has been the scene of violence between Communist Party of India cadres and local people since March this year.

This was his first visit to Nandigram after violence broke out between CPM cadres and locals, which erupted into a major political controversy.

Buddhadeb assured people that their land would not be taken away forcibly. He also announced compensation for the families of those who lost their lives in the violence.

Buddhadeb to address public meetings in Nandigram today

Nandigram, Dec 26: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb BhattacharjeeWest Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will address two public meetings at Nandigram today.

This will be his first visit to the area after intermittent violence broke out in Nandigram in January resulting in the State Government calling off its move to acquire land for a mega chemical hub project.

Bhattacharjee will address one meeting at Nandigram and other at Tamluk, the headquarters of East Medinipur district.

During his visit, he is expected to announce new development schemes for Nandigram.
