Islamabad, Sept 3: Amid news reports that PPP Co-chairman and presidential candidate Asif Ali Zardari was “mentally ill” due to the 11-year-long incarceration, his party sources have said that it was natural to have psychological impact on one’s mind after living in jail for 11 years.

They said that Zardari was kept in jail in the worst conditions for 11 years, and added that if anybody faced such conditions for only one month, it was bound to have an impact on his health.

Islamabad, Sept 3: Even as PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is all set to win the September 6 presidential election, there is a growing feeling among the business and economic circles of Pakistan that Zardari would be successful in turning the economy around because of his sharp business instincts and active participation in mega projects during the last PPP governments.

People recall that it was Zardari’s direct involvement during Benazir Bhutto’s second stint of prime ministership which resulted in the massive induction of power generation through the IPPs.

Islamabad, Sept 3: PPP Co-chairman and presidential hopeful, Asif Ali Zardari has said that the upcoming presidential election will not be an easy victory for his party, but a close fight. Though, he claimed the support of 90 percent of political parties.

“It’s going to be a fight, it’s not going to be a walkover,” Zardari said, adding that he had the support of “90 percent of political forces”.

Lahore, Sept 3: On the eve of the September 6 Presidential poll in Pakistan, the PPP, which has fielded its Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari as the front-runner candidate, has decided to stage a show of strength in Islamabad and all four provincial capitals on Friday.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani at the Governor’s House in Lahore, said party sources.

Islamabad, Sept 3: PPP Co-chairman and presidential candidate Asif Ali Zardari has reportedly asked the federal government to plan residential apartments for journalists at “affordable installments”.

The ministries of Housing and Information should consult journalist organisations to devise criteria for eligibility and should ensure merit and transparency in the allotments, the Daily Times quoted him as saying here last evening.
