Lahore, Sept 6: Ahead of the much anticipated win of their party’s Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in today’s presidential poll, the PPP workers have made elaborate arrangements to celebrate the victory in advance.

After visiting the shrine of Data Ganj Bakhsh at 4.00 pm today, a large number of PPP workers will distribute sweets after Iftar this evening. Later in the night, there will be illumination and display of fireworks at PPP offices, the Dawn quoted the elated PPP workers as saying.

Lahore, Sept 6: PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s ascendancy to the presidency seems to be a foregone conclusion as MNAs and MPAs in Pakistan cast their votes to elect the country’s next President, but chances of Zardari completing his full five year term are bleak if one goes by the country’s political history.

In the past 61 years after Separation, none of the seven presidents Pakistan had, could complete his full five year term.

Karachi, Sept 6 : Even as Pakistan witnesses presidential election today for its 12 head of state, with PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari being the front runner, different astrologers have given varying predictions about his future.

Islamabad, Sept 5 : PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is all set to assume Presidency after tomorrow’s poll, but it is yet to be seen how forcefully he will act against militants in the face of Pakistani public opposition to American pressure. Nor is it clear how much influence he exerts over the still powerful military and the nation’s premier spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence, said an editorial in the New York Times.

Islamabad, Sept 5: PPP Co-chairman and presidential hopeful Asif Ali Zardari, who is expected to win tomorrow’s presidential poll, will embark on his first ever visit as the head of the state to China on September 9.

If he wins, Zardari would be Pakistan’s 12th President.

Zardari’s planned trip may be an attempt to blunt the growing criticism that there was a shift in the PPP government’s policy towards China and that it was distancing itself from Pakistan’s most-trusted ally, i. e. the US.

Lahore, Sept 5 : The PML-N had leaked to a foreign newspaper the medical reports suggesting that PPP Co-chairman and presidential hopeful Asif Ali Zardari suffered from mental illness till last year due to 11-year-long incarceration.

The PML-N hardliner is also “leaking” other stories of Zardari’s bank accounts and properties to a section of the media that is anti-Zardari, said a PML-N source.

“It is going to get worse today and tomorrow. It looks as though hardliners in the PML-N are determined to push Nawaz Sharif into a confrontation with Asif Zardari and bring the entire system into disrepute,” the Daily Times quoted the source as saying.
