AAP members meet president, oppose ordinance

arvind-kejriwalNew Delhi, Sep 27 : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members Friday met President Pranab Mukherjee and urged him not to sign an ordinance that shields convicted lawmakers.

The ordinance, which has been approved by the union cabinet, reverses the Supreme Court judgment mandating the immediate disqualification of lawmakers convicted for a criminal offence punishable with a jail term of more than two years.

"We told the president that the ordinance is against the wish of the people and urged him not to sign it," AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal told reporters after the meeting.

arvind-kejriwalNew Delhi, Sep 18 : Campaigning by the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi won't help the BJP in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal said Wednesday.

"Modi factor won't work in Delhi because the people are smart enough to understand that if BJP wins, their CM (chief minister) would be Vijay Goel (Delhi BJP chief) and not Modi," Kejriwal said.

Modi is scheduled to address a rally here Sep 29.

Kejriwal, an activist-turned-politician, said the BJP was copying the AAP's election campaign.

Dikshit mocks Kejriwal on power bills

Sheila-DikshitNew Delhi, June 28 : Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Friday took a jibe at Aam Admi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal for his agitation against "inflated" power bills, by saying that people who use air-conditioners would have to pay high tariff.

"In the last few years, the sale of generators has declined in Delhi and the sale of ACs (air-conditioners) has risen sharply. If you use an AC, you will have to pay its electricity bill. But Kejriwal does not talk about that," Diskhit said.

Breaking the fast in protest against the allegedly inflated power bills, amid loud cheers from his supporters, Kejriwal said that the Dikshit government has no right to rule after it could not make water and electricity available for people.

Kejriwal also said that days of Congress government in Delhi led by Sheila Dikshit are numbered.

arvind-kejriwalNew Delhi, April 5 : Activist-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal, who is on a hunger strike against "inflated" electricity and water bills in Delhi, Friday announced that he will break his fast Saturday 5 p. m., after 14 days of surviving only on water.

"Tomorrow is April 6 and it is a very auspicious day as Mahatma Gandhiji broke the salt law in 1930 after the Dandi March to launch the civil disobedience movement. I will break my fast at 5 p. m. tomorrow (Saturday)," Kejriwal said.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader is on a hunger strike since March 23 against the allegedly inflated water and power bills.

"Reforms are a long political journey, and at this stage his health is of paramount importance," Ravi Shankar said in a statement.

Kejriwal, who heads the Aam Aadmi Party, started his fast in a slum area in Sundar Nagri over the weekend, asking people not to pay power and water bills.(IANS)

Kejriwal began his fast in the morning at a house near the sub-divisional magistrate's office in Sunder Nagri area in east Delhi. According to the AAP leader, the house owner had to borrow money to pay his water and electric bills.

"The time has come to motivate people against illegal rise in taxes by the Delhi government," Kejriwal had said Friday.

Nutan Thakur had filed her petition onOctober 9, 2012, and on Thursday, it was dismissed by the court''s Lucknow bench, consisting of Justices Uma Nath Singh and Virendra Kumar Dixit.

Thakur’s petition was submitted by her lawyer Ashok Pandey.

The court said that it was matter that had to be dealt by the Prime Minister''s Office.
