Altaf shocked by silence over Sufi Muhammad’s remarksKarachi, Apr 22 : Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has questioned the silence of political parties, lawyers and the civil society over Sufi Muhammad’s statement that branded constitutional institutions of Pakistan ‘un-Islamic’.

“Why are the champions of the independence of the judiciary and those who resorted to the long march for that purpose still silent against Sufi Muhammad?” Altaf asked, in a statement released by the MQM’s office on Tuesday.

The Daily Times quoted Hussain, as saying that the Taliban's Sharia law was based on violence, and urged people to unite against the menace of Talibansation.

Hussain also condemned a statement by Pak-Taliban chief Sufi Muhammad, that high courts and the Supreme Court are un-Islamic.

He made this demand while delivering a telephonic address on Sunday at a MQM women wing's rally at the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah.

Altaf says war on terror ‘must’ for Pakistan’s survival

London, Jan. 4 : Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has said that the war on terror is must for Pakistan's survival.

"Pakistan will have to continue fighting against terrorism for its survival," Hussain was quoted by The News, as saying.

During a meeting in MQM international secretariat in London, he urged all the members of Parliament, political and religious leaders including MQM's chief political figures to maintain unity and extend mutual cooperation for one another in Pakistan's interest.

Hussain also expressed his concern over Pakistan's image distortion due to growing terrorist activities that made terror war even more indispensable.

In a statement, Hussain expressed his grief and sorrow on brutal killings of dozens of innocent people, including the police personnel.

Hussain said that terrorist attacks on different places in Mumbai including hotels and the railway station; the way innocent civilians and police personnel were fired upon and many locals and foreigners have been made hostage is highly deplorable.

The ruling coalition, including the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has remained divided over the presidential candidacy after former President Pervez Musharraf announced his resignation on Monday.
