Kasab''s trial to begin todayMumbai, Apr 17 : The trial of Ajamal Amir Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist of the Mumbai attacks, will begin here today.

On Thursday, a Special Sessions Court appointed Abbas Kazmi as new lawyer of Kasab to defend him as per Indian law.

Earlier, Special Judge M L Tahiliyani had revoked the appointment of Anjali Waghmare, the lawyer who was appointed to defend Kasab, on grounds of ''''professional misconduct''''.

Abbas Kazmi, a criminal lawyer from Mumbai, was appointed by Special Judge ML Tahilyani to replace Anjali Waghmare who was removed by the court on grounds of "professional misconduct," the IANS news agency reported.

Kazmi, a private lawyer and not from the legal aid panel, has been appointed to defend Kasab as per Indian law.

Kazmi is a well-known name in the legal circle and is a member of the Sessions Bar Council.

Anjali Waghmare failed to disclose that she also represented a witness in the same case when she was appointed to defend Kasab, NDTV news quoted judge ML Tahiliyani of the special court as saying.

"It will not be appropriate for Waghmare to continue. I revoke the appointment," Tahiliyani said, citing a conflict of interest.
