PC might become extinct with Google's Rumored GDrive
It might be a bit sad to know but the hard fact is that latest technology always takes over the old, making it completely extinct from the scene. In a similar fashion, rumors are spreading all around that the desktop computer might be killed if Google's service "GDrive" comes to the scene, which would let the users access their PCs from anywhere with just an Internet connection.
As of now, Google has not confirmed GDrive but it has been learnt that it might be launched this year. It is being seen as the most awaited product by Google so far.
An entirely different turn would be taken by the Google drive as compared to Microsoft Window's operating system, which depends upon "cloud computing", where storage and processing is done in data centers. The computers' powerful hard drives would no longer be relied upon by the users.
The latest fashion is of web-based services, upon which many users can easily access through internet. These include famous services Hotmail and Gmail - and photo storage, such as Flickr and Picasa and some new SAAS applications (mainly for business users).
The good thing is that there would be no fear in the mind of the user regarding the crashing of their hard drives, since now data would be saved on the Web, and can be accessed from any machine.
A PC with the support of GDrive would now be a portal to the Web, enabling users to think of their computer as software rather than hardware.
