Pakistan won’t compromise its national security: Zardari

Asif Ali ZardariIslamabad, Jan. 20 : Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has said that his country will not compromise on the issue of national security.

Zardari met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Kayani here and told him that the government will not compromise on national security in any case, The Daily Times reported.

During the meeting, General Kayani briefed Zardari about the security situation in Pakistan, including the rise in tension with India.

The troubled tribal area along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border was also discussed in the meeting with General Kayani briefing the President about the steps taken by the Pakistan Army to counter rising extremism in the region.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with the British Defence Secretary John Hutton, General Kayani has expressed serious concern over the continuous US drone attacks on Al Qaeda and Taliban targets inside Pakistan’s territory (tribal areas).

According to the newspaper, General Kayani asked for the attacks to be stopped immediately as they were proving to be counter-productive in the ‘war on terror’ in the region. (ANI)
