NTPC profit down, pleads with government
National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC), leading producer of thermal power in the country has seen a fall in profit for the quarterly basis, but an increase in terms of yearly basis.
In both the results announced by the company on Monday, it said that it saw a profit of Rs. 20,176.50 million for the quarter ending March 31, 2010. While profit is there, but it is lesser than Rs. 21,133.50 million profit that it saw in the same period last year.
Its quarterly income, however, increased from Rs. 124, 548.30 million to Rs. 129,810.40 million for the quarter ending March.
The power producer saw a net profit of Rs. 87,282.00 million for the year ending March as compared to Rs. 82, 013.00 million for the previous year. On the other hand, the total income of the company rose from Rs. 452, 460.80 million to Rs. 492,466.50 million.
The consolidated profit of the company was Rs. 88,376.50 million for the year as compared to Rs. 80,925.60 million during the last year. The income of the company increased from Rs. 460,631.90 million to Rs. 512,033.50 million.
Meanwhile, caught in between the gas price spat between the Ambani brothers, NTPC has asked for government intervention and help.
