December retail sales rise just 1.8 percent

retail salesAccording to the latest figures released, the retail sales growth slowed during the month of December in the UK even as customers picked up attractive deals this holiday season.

The British Retail Consortium said total sales increased just 1.8 percent during the month of December compared to the same month of the previous year. The growth rate of 1.8 percent is slower than 2.3 percent in November. The sales was just 0.4 percent higher during the month compared to the same month of 2012 and 0.6 percent higher than November on a like-for-like basis.

Construction sector to accelerate this year

UK constructionIt is believed that the UK's construction sector is expected to record strong output rise this year following strongest workloads balance for the fourth quarter of 2013.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors have said that construction sector is rising strongly but the firms in the sector are facing a lack of skills and materials as demand increases across the country. The RICS report showed that workloads balance increased to +38 in the fourth quarter of the previous year, which is highest level since records began in the second quarter of 1994.

Infosys ups revenue guidance to 12 percent

InfosysMysore (Karnataka), Jan 10 - Infosys has once again revised its revenue guidance for this fiscal (2013-14) upwards to 12 percent from previous estimate of 10 percent in dollar terms.

In a regulatory filing to stock exchanges Friday, the IT bellwether said revenues were expected to grow 11.5-12 percent in dollar terms and 24.4-24.9 percent for fiscal 2014 (FY 2014) from 22 percent in rupee terms as estimated in the second quarter of this fiscal.

Earlier, the reported net profit of Rs. 2,875 crore for third quarter (Oct-Dec) of this fiscal, posting 21.4 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth.

Akbaruddin further said that Khobragade, Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York, was accorded on January 8 and given the privileges and immunities of a diplomatic envoy under the terms of Section 15 of the Headquarters Agreement between the United Nations and the United States.

Samsung plans to roll out Galaxy S5 with 'iris scanner'

Samsung Galaxy S5Washington, Jan. 10 : Samsung has reportedly announced its plans to roll out Galaxy S5 smartphone that would include 'iris scanning technology' in a possible competition to Apple's finger scanning tech in its latest iPhone 5S.

The Galaxy S5 is expected to be unveiled in April and an updated version of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch would make its debut alongside the smartphone.

According to The Verge, the company's mobile executive VP, LeeYoung-hee said that the new version of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch would feature "more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved."
