Nivolumab helps fight Cancerous Lung Tumors

A trial has suggested that a therapy for lung cancer has the ability to double the life expectancy in patients. Nivolumab is able to stop cancerous cells hiding from body's defenses. The trial showed results from more than 550 patients which were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Lung cancer, which is also known as carcinoma of the lung, is the deadliest form of cancer that kills about 1.6 million people every year. It is difficult to treat the cancer as it is usually diagnosed late. In addition, a number of patients are found unsuitable for surgery due to their smoking-related diseases.

Military discovers more suspected Shipments of Live Anthrax

On Friday, the United States military announced that it has found more suspected shipments of live anthrax than earlier thought. The shipments are found both in the country and abroad. According to the military, sweeping review of practices has been ordered to inactivate the bacteria.

According to a statement by the Pentagon, more than 10 states of the country could have received the suspected samples. No risk has yet been found to public, while there is an extremely low risk to workers of the lab, the statement said. The Pentagon has asked all laboratories to stop operating with samples that are sent by the Defense Department.

Climate Change increases Strength of Super typhoons

A study conducted by an international team of researchers has found that the rising temperature on the planet has been strengthening the intensity of tropical cyclones in the north-west Pacific. According to the researchers, ferocity of tropical cyclones will continue to increase with change in the earth’s climate over the century.

During the study, the researchers analyzed more than 800 typhoons in the north-west Pacific and discovered that the intensity of the storms has increased about 10% since 1970s. According to Wei Mei, a climate scientist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California and co-author of the study, the increase is surprising.

Egypt was Last Stop of Early Humans when they left Africa: Study

From a long time, early humans’ route when they left Africa has been a matter of debate. Now, DNA evidence has provided information on the exact route that early humans chose to exit Africa into Asia and Europe. According to researchers, the early humans migrated through Egypt.

The researchers reported in the American Journal of Human Genetics that a study of genetic data from about six modern Northeast African populations suggested that early humans moved through Egypt and the Sinai.

Science Journal retracts Study on Same-sex Marriage

On Thursday, the journal Science retraced an earlier study on gay marriage and public opinion. Before retracing the study, the journal did not take permission from University of California, Los Angeles, graduate student and lead author of the study, Michael J. LaCour.

On May 19, professor from Columbia University and second author of the study, Donald Green, requested the journal to withdraw the study based on the evidence which showed that the data was at least in part falsified.

Lenovo’s Windows 10 Tablet to Arrive in August

Lenovo will be among one of the first companies to offer a Windows 10 tablet, with a new ThinkPad device which is all set to arrive in August.

The next-generation ThinkPad 10 will be loaded with Microsoft's forthcoming OS and is majorly meant for business users. The device will be launched with a starting price of $499.

The ThinkPad 10 is made available with a choice of quad-core Intel Atom processors, the X5 Z8500 or the X7 Z8700, which are part of Intel's 'Cherry Trail' line of processors.

Other option made available for the users includes either 2GB or 4GB of RAM, and 64GB or 128GB of internal storage.

Apart from the faster processors and a new USB 3.0 port, the ThinkPad 10 is otherwise very much similar to the previous generation.
