FIR against DCW chief Swati Maliwal over 'irregularities' in appointments

New Delhi [India], Sept. 20 : The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on Tuesday filed an FIR against Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal over alleged irregularities in appointment of staff in the women's panel.

The FIR has been filed under Prevention of Corruption Act and comes after she was grilled by the ACB yesterday over the matter.

Speaking to the media after being questioned, Maliwal said that they have asked her 27 questions and have given her a week to respond, adding that the questions pertain to how the DCW managed to make so many appointments.

Diyas light up Dashashwamedh Ghat as Varanasi prays for Uri bravehearts

Varanasi (UP) [India], Sept. 20 : As India salutes the valor of the Uri bravehearts, the locals in Uttar Pradesh's temple city Varanasi were seen performing Ganga Aarti for them and their families.

People from all walks of life took part in the special aarti, which is usually performed every evening, at the pious Ganga River, praying for the martyrs.

Holding placards which read 'salute to Indian soldiers', the locals in particular the elderly women prayed at the Dashashwamedh Ghat, which is the main ghat in Varanasi, for the families of the slain soldiers.

The members of the Ganga Seva Nidhi also lit diyas for the soldiers, who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

Sunday's fresh terror attack is a huge setback for the families of these Uri bravehearts.

Cauvery dispute: Sec 144 imposed in Mandya ahead of SC order today

New Delhi [India], Sept. 20 : The Supreme Court today will hear the plea on directions to both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to take preventive measures, in the matter of the Cauvery water dispute.

Meanwhile, Section 144 has been imposed in Mandya's Sanjay circle ahead of the apex court's order.

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has issued guidelines to the Police, directing them to take precautionary measures.

He has also directed the police to keep ready fire engines and required emergency forces at sensitive areas around Cauvery belt including Bengaluru.

The police has also been directed to flag march around sensitive areas and an appeal has been made to pro-Kannada activists and farmers' associations to maintain peace.

India needs retribution, says Kashmiri activist on Uri attack

New Delhi, [India], Sept. 20 : Kashmiri activist Sushil Pandit has urged that India must not observe restraint and seek retribution against Pakistan for Sunday's terror strike in Uri.

Pandit said, "This attack merits a very serious retaliation from the government. India must no longer observe the restraint that it has shown over the past so many decades. Pakistan does not merit Indian restraint anymore. This toll is likely to go higher because there are several injured soldiers in critical condition. The coffins have begun to reach their families. This nation wants retribution."

India is to present all actionable evidence against Pakistan if required at international bodies.

Post-Uri attack Khurshid hopes Modi Govt.will go beyond words

New Delhi, [India], Sept. 20 : Asserting that the Congress party will support the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre with regard to dealing with the current crisis, emanating from the terror strike in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir, former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid said Tuesday that he expects the Centre to work beyond words.

Describing the Uri attack as unacceptable Khurshid said and that nation wants an eradication of terrorism.
