Sonam Kapoor finds 'sexism' in film industry `disgusting`

New Delhi [India], Oct. 4 : Sonam Kapoor may be one of the A-lister actresses in Bollywood, but she is not okay with what the female actors get compared to what the men get to make a film.

In an interview with Anupama Chopra for Film Companion, the 31-year-old fashionista opened up about the prevailing biasness toward men, saying, "There is a lot of sexism in the society which is disgusting."

The diva cited the example of fellow actors, John Abraham and Varun Dhawan and the kind of money they got to make 'Dishoom,' which she says is "way more than what Kareena and I were getting to make 'Veere Di Wedding.'"

World Bank report: India trumps Pakistan in female literacy, infant mortality

Lahore [Pakistan], Oct. 4 : Fresh statistics released by the World Bank this week show that India has an edge over Pakistan in adult female literacy and life expectancy, however, it also mentions that both the hostile neighbours face the herculean task of eradicating poverty.

According to Dawn, the World Bank report titled "Poverty and Shared Prosperity" has put Pakistan among the countries where incomes of the poorest are growing faster than average.

The poorest in Pakistan are slightly ahead of the four per cent national growth rate while China tops the list with a more than 8pc growth rate.

On the other hand, India lands among the countries where incomes of the poorest are growing slower than average, although it has one of the world's fastest growing economies.

BCCI chief `not sure` India will play in Champions Trophy next year

New Delhi [India], Oct.04 : In the wake of Lodha panel's sweeping recommendation for the country's cricket governing body, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur has cast doubts over whether India will be able to play the prestigious Champions Trophy next year.

The BCCI is opposed to the Lodha committee's recommendation that a 15-day window should be given to players between India's international calendar and the cash-rich Indian Premier League in order to avoid player burnout.

Washington D.C. [USA], Oct. 3 : A new study says, babies born to women with hearing loss were significantly more likely to be premature and have low birth weight.

Around one percent of people in the U.S. who are 18 to 44 years old have hearing loss of various types, severity, pattern, and age of onset. Unfortunately, many individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing can have significant health issues, while communication and language barriers, along with a general mistrust of the medical community, result in social and healthcare marginalization for many.
