NTPC profit down, pleads with government

national-thermal-power-corpNational Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (NTPC), leading producer of thermal power in the country has seen a fall in profit for the quarterly basis, but an increase in terms of yearly basis.

In both the results announced by the company on Monday, it said that it saw a profit of Rs. 20,176.50 million for the quarter ending March 31, 2010. While profit is there, but it is lesser than Rs. 21,133.50 million profit that it saw in the same period last year.

Whirlpool India profit rises

whirlpool-IndiaOn Monday, the net profit of Whirlpool India increased three times to become Rs. 57.72 crore. The figure is for the quarter ending March 31, 2010.

Interestingly, this is the highest ever increase that the consumer durable manufacturing company has seen in a three-month period.

It saw a profit of Rs. 17.72 crore for the quarter ending March. It also saw total sales of Rs. 577.54 crore for the same period as against Rs. 374.66 crore for the corresponding period of last year.

L&T posts more than expected profit

Larsen-ToubroThe biggest construction and engineering company in India, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) said on Monday that it has seen more than expected profit for the quarter ending March 31, 2010.

It said that the company managed to see an all-round growth. While on one hand the inflows grew on the other the sales also showed good performance.

But most of the development was seen in the fields of hydrocarbon, fertilizer, defense, buildings and industrial sectors.

RCom sees a decline in profit

RcomReliance Communications Ltd. (RCom), on Monday, reported a 16.1 per cent decline in its fourth quarter profit.

The reason cited by the second largest phone operator in India was that the sector has suddenly seen an increase in competition and that has forced the company to lower its earnings.

As several new entrants enter into the Indian telecom market, which is the fastest growing in the world, all the major players have seen a decline in financials.

Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and now RCom, all have seen a substantial decrease in their average revenue per user.

Spice Mobile’s profit up 3 times, expects 2011 to be better

Spice-MobilesOn Monday, Spice Mobiles reported an increase in profit which makes it three times that of same period last year. For the quarter ending March 31, 2010, the net profit of the company was Rs. 23 crore.

The net sales of the company increased to Rs. 339 crore for the quarter ending March. This is much higher than last year when the figure stood at Rs. 170 crore.

As for the full year ending March, the net profit of the company was Rs. 70 crore. This is a substantial increase considering the fact that Spice Mobiles were facing a loss of Rs. 2.7 crore last year.

J&K Bank crosses Rs.500 crore mark

Jammu-Kashmir-BankPublic sector bank, Jammu&Kashmir (J&K) Bank has seen the biggest jump in its profit ever. The annual net profit of the bank managed to cross the Rs. 500 crore mark and reached Rs. 512.38 crore for the financial year 2010.

What is worth noting is that the figure has risen from Rs. 409.84 crore, an increase of 25 per cent.

For the quarter ending March, 2010 it saw an increase of 53 per cent in its profit to reach Rs. 120.04 crore. This is higher as compared to Rs. 78.68 crore for the same period last year.
