A recent survey by Ofcom showed that one out of every four UK kids, using internet, had a profile on social networking sites like Facebook, Bebo or MySpace. Ofcom released today the data of its annual Children's Media Literacy Audit for 2009.

Ofcom conducted the survey among kids aged between 8 and 12 years. The minimum age limit for opening an account in such social networking sites is 13 years.

Virgin Media, a fibre optic broadband provider, announced that the company is planning to launch a new online service which will allow subscribers to access content on demand. Virgin said that the new multi platform video on demand player will be launched by the end of 2010.

This new video on demand player will give competition to the rivals like BBC iPlayer and Sky Player.

For the time being, telecom companies will not need to pay higher taxes to the government, which they earlier were supposed to pay from 1st April. The government's decision to hike the levy operators pay to use spectrum, the airwaves on which mobile signals travel, by up to 50%, was stayed by the telecom tribunal , TDSAT.

As of now, all the mobile services existing in the country are provided on 2G frequencies and telecom operators are required paying 2-6 % of their annual gross revenue, depending on the amount of spectrum they hold, as spectrum usage charges to the government.
