Chelsea striker Drogba faces violent conduct charge

Chelsea striker Drogba faces violent conduct charge London  - The Football Association charged Chelsea forward Didier Drogba with violent conduct on Friday.

Drogba is alleged to have thrown a missile back into the crowd as he celebrated the goal that put his side ahead against Burnley in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.

Burnley came back to win on penalties, and Drogba later apologized.

Referee Keith Stroud told the FA that he had not seen Drogba throw anything, although he did book him for inciting the Burnley fans.

The Metropolitan Police are also investigating the incident.

"Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been charged with violent conduct," an FA statement said. "Drogba is alleged to have thrown a missile into the away section of the crowd after scoring during the League Cup match at Stamford Bridge."

He must respond to the charge by Monday evening and a regulatory commission is to hear the case on Tuesday, the statement said. (dpa)
