Kia enjoys impressive 65% surge in U.S. EV sales in February 2024

Kia America, the American arm of South Korean multinational automobile manufacturer, has reported an impressive 65 per cent surge in EV sales in the US market for February 2024, despite a 3 per cent year-over-year decline in total vehicle sales. The surge in EV sales against the backdrop of the aforementioned year-over-year fall in total vehicle sales showcasing Kia's commitment and success in advancing the adoption of EVs in the U.S. market. The automaker’s strategic push toward electrification is quite evident in the remarkable performance of its EV6 and the recently introduced EV9.

Last month, Kia America reported a total of 59,059 vehicle sales in the U.S. While this figure seems to be quite big, it reflects a marginal 3 per cent fall year-over-year. The year-to-date sales result of 110,149 vehicles represents a decline of 2.4 per cent, setting the stage for Kia's continued efforts to navigate the evolving automotive landscape. However, the standout achievement lies in the domain of EVs, with the brand experiencing a substantial year-over-year growth.

While Kia didn’t disclose the exact number of EVs sold by it last month, estimations suggest that it sold nearly 4,000 EVs. During the first two months of this year, it sold close to 7,500 EVs. This surge is particularly impressive, considering various challenges faced by the automotive industry.

When we break down the EV sales, sales of the Kia E-GMP-based electric cars reached 2,627 units in February, representing a remarkable 103 per cent growth year-over-year. This translates to a 4.4 per cent share out of the company’s total sales volume, signaling a growing appetite for the brand’s electric offerings. Within this E-GMP family, the EV6 and EV9 took center stage.

February's E-GMP-based BEV sales for Kia included 1,309 units of the EV6 (up 1 per cent) and 1,318 units (new) of the EV9. Sales in the total E-GMP family jumped 118 per cent to settle at 5,248 units, accounting for 4.8 per cent share.

Seoul-headquartered Kia's remarkable growth in terms of U.S. EV sales last month underscores the brand’s commitment to the electric future of transportation. The success of its E-GMP lineup, including the EV6 and EV9, serves as a clear indicator of the growing acceptance and demand for electric mobility solutions. With a steadfast commitment to innovation, the brand’s trajectory in the EV market remains a compelling narrative in the automotive landscape.
