The highly anticipated Polestar 3, the first SUV model from the Swedish car brand, is going to make its mark in the US market, with deliveries set to commence sometime in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024. Confirming the commencement of deliveries of the Polestar 3 e-SUV in the April-June quarter of this year, the Swedish brand also offered enthusiasts a glimpse into the upcoming vehicle’s range, specifications, and pricing details.

Built on Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture 2 (SPA2) platform, the Polestar 3 shares its lineage with Volvo’s three-row SUV, called the EX90. However, the Polestar 3 distinguishes itself with a two-row, five-seat configuration, which allows it to avoid a direct rivalry with its Volvo counterpart.

Production of the new EV will take place in Chengdu, China, and at Volvo Cars’ Ridgeville, South Carolina-based production facility, and it is expected later this quarter. While presumed to be a 2024 model year EV, it aligns with the EX90 labeled as 2025 model year vehicle.

Initially, the e-SUV will be offered in two variants. The base model is the Polestar 3 Long Range (LR) Dual Motor (DM) all-wheel drive vehicle with 21-inch wheels, and it starts at $83,900 (plus a $1,400 destination charge). The second version comes with an optional $6,000 Performance pack, which boasts increased power output, 22-inch wheels, a revised chassis setup, and a number of other enhancements. Thus, priced at $89,900 (plus a $1,400 destination charge), this version promises a heightened driving experience. The company is offering the EV two version to catering to diverse preferences and driving experiences.

The list of technical specifications includes a 111-kWh battery, promising an estimated EPA range is around 300 miles on a single charge. The Performance version with 22-inch wheels offers slightly reduced range of 270 miles. To combat harsh cold weather on range, all Polestar 3 versions include a heat pump. The Performance pack also boasts peak power output of 380 kW, accompanied by an impressive 0-60 mph acceleration time 4.6 seconds.

In terms of eligibility for federal tax credit of up to $7,500, both of the aforementioned models fall outside the $80,000 cap, despite being produced locally in the United States. In China, the base version of the Polestar 3 e-SUV is available for 698,000 CNY (approx. $98,000), while the Performance version can be acquired for (798,000 CNY (approx. $112,800). Notably, this pricing strategy marks a substantial reduction from the initially announced figures of 880,000 CNY and 1,030,000 CNY, respectively.
