Human brains are as large as they can be, researchers
Researchers have suggested that human brains are now as large as they can be, thus indicating that it is impossible for humans to physically become any smarter.
They say that the brainpower has reached its peak and will require huge amounts of extra energy and oxygen, which humans simply cannot provide. Cambridge University researchers studied the structure of the human brain and worked out how much is needed by its cells.
Simon Laughlin, professor of neurobiology, said: “We have demonstrated that brains must consume energy to function and that these requirements are sufficiently demanding to limit our performance and determine design.”
He also said that the brain needs a lot of energy to process and such demand indicates there is a limit to the processing power of humans. While other suggest that network of fibres linking different areas of the brain cannot be more efficient as it is already.
