NTPC awaiting UP Govt. clearance in the Barghad project
The state owned National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is still awaiting clearances from the Mayawati's government to set up a 4,000 MW plant in Barghad area of Banda district of the region.
It may be noted here that the interest in the Barghad project was shown after the PSU ruled out a possibility of the JV with the state government for the Lalitpur project wherein the plant was supposed to be of 4,000 MW.
In fact, the UP government later scrapped the deal and reduced the size to 1,960 MW and awarded the contract to Bajaj Hindustan. Moreover, the plant in the Barghad area is still awaiting land and water clearances from the state government.
The company has recently said that it is still very much interested in the Barghad project if it is able to get the required clearances soon. It is believed that the expected new unit will see an investment close Rs. 20-24,000 crore a in the plant.
However, sources confirm that the state government is looking at a JV with the company that it has declined earlier also because of the internal policies.
