Sonia tells party MPs to get ready for polls
New Delhi, Mar 11: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today called upon her party MPs to prepare themselves for General elections.
Speaking at a Congress Party Parliamentary meeting in Parliament House, Gandhi called for "harder work and meticulous preparation” and urged them to work in their respective constituencies for better results.
Although elections are only due next year, Congress MPs say they have been asked to take the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government's achievements to the people.
Gandhi is believed to have told the MPs that certain parties were adopting the narrow approach region and religion to get political mileage, but “our party has to go for elections with an outstanding record of achievements.”
According to the MPs, she also said that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's speech in the Parliament last week had given a new zeal to the partymen and would inspire them.
She added that party leaders have to work towards ensuring that the fruits of the people-friendly Railway and Union Budgets reach the masses. (ANI)
