Pak needs more aid to pre-empt global terror strikes from its soil: Holbrooke
Tokyo, Apr. 16 : The US Special Envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke has said that the international community should ensure giving more financial aid to Pakistan, as the terrorist groups based on its soil are on the verge of carrying out attacks around the world.
Addressing delegates at the donors’ conference here in which countries have pledged five billion dollars for Pakistan as aid, Holbrooke said the world must keep supporting the country.
“The terrorists in western Pakistan are planning other attacks around the world. So, we should remind ourselves that the problem is far from over,” The News quoted Holbrooke, as saying.
He said that it was very important that the democratic set-up of Pakistan is strengthened in order to thwart the challenges put up by the terror outfits.
“ I have no doubt whatsoever that they are planning other attacks as we sit here in Tokyo and other capitals around the world, so we need to work hard to strengthen the government of Pakistan, to deal with the tribal areas with all its problems,” Holbrooke added. (ANI)
