Ex-Minister Sukhram sentenced to three years in prison
New Delhi, Feb 25 : A Delhi court on Wednesday sentenced former Union Minister Sukhram to three years imprisonment in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
A court also imposed a fine of Rs two lakh on Sukhram.
However, the court granted bail to Sukhram on furnishing a personal bond and surety of Rs 50,000 each.
On Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) pleaded before a court to give the maximum punishment of seven years to Sukhram.
On February 20, the court had said, Sukhram, a cabinet colleague of Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, amassed disproportionate assets, both movable and immovable, to the tune of Rs 5.36 crore between 1991 and 1996.
He was convicted under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act dealing with criminal misconduct by a public servant. (ANI)
