New Delhi, Apr 22 : The Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former Union Minister Sukhram, who was sentenced to three years imprisonment, in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

On February 25, a Delhi court had sentenced Sukhram to three years imprisonment in the case. A court also imposed a fine of Rs two lakh on Sukhram.

The court had suspended his sentence for two months giving an opportunity for him to appeal in the High Court against his conviction.

However, the court granted bail to Sukhram on furnishing a personal bond and surety of Rs 50,000 each.

On Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) pleaded before a court to give the maximum punishment of seven years to Sukhram.

Special CBI prosecutor Gurdial Singh told Special CBI Judge V K Maheshwari that Sukhram is liable for a maximum sentence under the Prevention of Corruption Act as the wealth was collected during his tenure as a Minister.
