No proof against Mulayam in DA case: CBI
The CBI declared that there is no evidence of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his kin amassing disproportionate assets, a charge the very same agency had been keen to establish just a year ago.
Mulayam Singh Yadav led Samajwadi Party had changed its stance and extended its support to the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the crucial July 22 confidence motion in the Lok Sabha.
The CBI, which had enthusiastically demanded a thorough probe and was successful in getting the desired directive from the SC more than a year ago has now done a turnaround and filed a fresh application adopting a very contrary position.
The CBI, in its application filed on October 26 last year, had said, "In the matter of registration of a case, the CBI does not make a reference either to the central government or the state government." Now, it wants to withdraw this application on the ground that no case is made against Mulayam, his two sons and other family members.
