No consensus over Musharraf's impeachment yet: Sherry Rehman

Lahore, May 29 : No consensus over Musharraf's impeachment yet: Sherry RehmanPakistan's Information and Broadcasting Minister Sherry Rehman has said that there is no consensus between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on the impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf.

Talking to Geo News, she said that both leaders had only reached a consensus on deciding the affairs of the government mutually, and not over Musharraf's impeachment.

She said the country's parliament would decide Musharraf's future.

She also expressed ignorance about proposals to try Musharraf for high treason.

Apparently, she was giving a rejoinder to Sharif's diatribe at a public rally on Wednesday, in which he said that Musharraf should be given a safe exit opportunity, but should be tried for treason for his many unconstitutional acts.

This call for putting Musharraf and all of Pakistan's military rulers on trial for high treason was also supported by Law Commission of Pakistan Secretary Dr. Faqeer Hussain.

The Dawn newspaper quoted Hussain as saying that the prevalence of the culture of impunity with regard to high treason was the most damaging feature facing Pakistan.

Hussain said that the situation could greatly improve if the courts ruled against such orders, adding that the perpetrators should be punished, as this would serve as a deterrent for would-be military rulers. (ANI)
