Netflix streaming player for Mac now for public
The Hacking Netflix recently reported that the Mac version by Netflix of its streaming movie player has been opened into the public stage of beta testing. This player, which is based upon the Microsoft's Silverlight animation plugin can be tried by anyone now. As of now, the entire collection by Netflix is not available, however, more than 12,000 titles are already accessible and the company is constantly adding more content to its "Watch Instantly" section. By the end of this year, the service would be available to all the customers.
The number of authorized devices has been kept till six due to DRM restrictions. Furthermore, if the user chooses to opt in, then each device requires using Silverlight for the Watch Instantly playback.
From quite sometime now, Netflix has been really fast working in order to expand its services into the streaming content market. The PC or Roku set-top boxes for television playback already offer the Watch Instantly content. The company aims that in the near future, it provides an HD version of the service to TiVo, Xbox 360, and Roku devices.
