Mob trouble during ‘Lamha’ shooting in Srinagar
Producer Bunty Walia’s film, ‘Lamha’, is a first film to be entirely shot in post-insurgency Kashmir. Though all precautions were taken for the shooting of the film, it still ran into trouble with protesting mobs.
The reason the locals were protesting was that they were afraid of being portrayed negatively, as the film is supposed to present a realistic look of the state with guns and militancy.
According to reports, the mob was protesting the shooting involving Bipasha Basu starring as a Kashmiri girl. The actress got the scare of her life when a mob of angry Kashmiris stopped her shooting in Srinagar, forcing her to scamper for safety.
Walia said: “It wasn’t a pleasant experience for Bipasha to suddenly see a mob of locals descending on the unit.” In fact, even the police force responsible for the safety of the film crew was rendered ineffectual against the mob.
Soon after the incident, the film’s director, Rahul Dholakia called a press conference, in which he made clear his intentions of making the picture and his commitment to portray the state and its people in the right light.
However, the majority of the film will now be will be shot on a set erected at Film City, Mumbai. The ‘Lamha’ crew feels that hooting this way is a better option.
Wasiq Khan, a veteran of shooting Kashmiri scenes, will take care of the look of the film. He has previously shot for films ‘Yahaan’ and ‘Tahaan’ based in the background of Kashmir.
