Managerless Portsmouth beat Manchester City

Managerless Portsmouth beat Manchester City London  - Managerless Portsmouth earned a much-needed win in the Premier League, beating big-spending Manchester City 2-0 at Fratton Park to move further clear of the relegation zone.

In their first match since the dismissal of Tony Adams on Monday, goals from Glen Johnson and Herman Hreidarsson sealed three vital points for the home side.

Full-back Johnson smashed the ball into the roof of the net after his initial shot had been saved, 20 minutes from time.

And five minutes later, Hreidarsson headed a superb second to move Portsmouth up to 15th place on 27 points, four points clear of the bottom three. (dpa)
