Lucknow, Mar 6: Lucknow royals antique gramophones and record collectionDescendents of a royal family in Lucknow have claimed that they have a rare collection of gramophones and records.

The Royal Awadh family said the trend collecting gramophones and records has been in in the family for generations.

Masoom Raza said: ‘There was a time, when these gramophones were the only source of entertainment. Back then, we did not have televisions or radio sets. People from the neighborhood also came over and listened to songs at our place. These gramophones played an important role when big dinner parties and luncheons were hosted.’

There was a time in the 1930s when records and gramophones were imported from England.

Today, their collection includes rare gramophones and records from1892 to 1978.

Many of these items were bought at throwaway prices, but today, they are worth millions of rupees.

The collection includes those of MGM, Megaphone, Colombia, Grophones, Concern Record, The Twin, Parlephone and Zonophone records.

The collection even includes original English movies and albums like Bodyrock, Soundtrack, Hit Action, Overture to Bohemian Girl, Laughing Song. Twin Dramatic Party
