Latest Orxa Mantis e-motorcycle boasts hi-tech specs & 137-mile range per charge
The realm of electric motorcycles recently witnessed a compelling addition as Indian electric vehicle (EV) startup Orxa Energies officially unveiled its latest offering: the Orxa Mantis. Initially introduced as a concept in 2019, the Orxa Mantis e-motorcycle promises to redefine personal electric mobility market, thanks to its focus on performance and technological sophistication.
Following a boisterous period that delayed the electric two-wheeler’s anticipated debut, Orxa Energies revived the Orxa Mantis. Presenting a formidable electric naked bike that exudes promising performance and innovative design, the Mantis stands poised to captivate enthusiasts.
The Mantis boasts impressive tech specifications and forward-thinking design. As per information revealed by the startup, the electric two-wheeler has a liquid-cooled electric motor capable of delivering a robust 20.5 kilowatts (approx. 27 horsepower), complemented by a torque of 69 pound-feet (93 Nm). While not aiming for astronomical torque figures seen in some other electric motorcycles, this motor is powerful enough to propel the motorcycle to a top speed of 135 kilometers per hour (roughly 83 miles per hour) and it achieves 0-60 miles per hour acceleration in 8.9 seconds.
For powering the electric motor, there is an 8.9 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack, which promises an impressive range of up to 221 kilometers (approx. 137 miles) on a single charge.
When it comes to charging, the Mantis offers a quick two-and-a-half-hour full charge using the "Blitz" fast charger; while a standard 1.3-kW charger requires 5 hours for a complete charge. Apart from motor propulsion, the battery pack governs the motorcycle’s electronic suite, which includes a 5-inch full-color TFT display supporting smartphone pairing and navigation. Additionally, the bike boasts a full-LED lighting system, which ensures visibility at night while imparting a characteristic visual appeal with its twin-projector LED setup. The list of technological advancements extends to regenerative braking and anti-lock braking system (ABS) features.
In a bid to optimize weight, the frame of the Orxa Mantis has been crafted from aerospace-grade aluminum. At the front, there is a suspension setup comprising 41-mm telescopic forks; while at the rear, there is a preload-adjustable monoshock. Braking is delivered through 320-mm front and 230-mm rear disc brakes, contributing to the two-wheeler’s overall handling and safety.
As for pricing and availability, the Orxa Mantis starts at INR 360,000 (roughly US$4,322). Notably, Orxa is offering the Mantis with a three-year, 30,000-km (18,750-mile) warranty, assuring buyers of lasting performance and reliability. The inaugural batch of Mantis is set to be delivered to pre-order holders in April 2024.
