German exports up in February

German exports up in FebruaryWiesbaden, Germany - The strong euro failed to dent Germany's export performance in February, according to figures released Wednesday.

The Federal Statistics Office said exports amounted to 84.6 billion euros (131 billion dollars), a 9 per cent increase over February 2007.

Exports to the euro zone grew by 5.6 per cent, while goods sold to other countries rose 13.5 per cent, the statistics office said.

February imports rose 7 per cent from a year ago to 67.7 billion euros.

The balance of trade for the month registered a surplus of 16.9 billion euros compared to 14.3 billion euros in February 2007.

On a month-by-month basis, exports in February remained virtually unchanged from January in seasonally adjusted terms, while imports were down 0.4 per cent, the statistics office said.(dpa)
