On Thursday, a plan to auction third-generation radio frequencies for wireless service providers was referred to Group of Ministers (GoM) by the Union Cabinet. In order to drive next-generation mobile offerings, 3G services are quite vital. The offerings include high-speed internet and video conferencing.

Thursday saw an announcement coming from medical service provider Fortis Healthcare that a controlling stake in Mauritian hospital 'Clinique Darne' would be jointly acquired by it with CIEL Group for a total of $7 million.

The domestic firm confirmed, "Fortis, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Novelife Ltd, has joined hands with Mauritian group CIEL for acquiring a controlling stake in the overseas private hospital -- Clinique Darne -- with an investment of $3.5 million each."

The hospital would be rechristened 'Fortis Clinique Darne', once the acquisition process is completed.

On Thursday three latest cellphone models were launched by Nokia, among which the successor to its slim hit model Nokia 6300 is also included.

In the second quarter of this year, Nokia will come out with its 6700 classic with a price tag of 235 euros ($307.4) when excluding subsidies and taxes, which is the follow up of the Nokia 6300 that was among Nokia's top sellers for many quarters.

The features of this model will include a 5-megapixel camera and GPS navigation with Nokia Maps.

The Tilaiya ultra mega power project (UMPP) in Jharkhand has been acquired by Reliance by proposing to supply power at Rs 1.77 per unit, which is the lowest price quoted by the four companies in the fray.

The government owned NTPC was the one to come with the next bid for the Rs 16,000-18,000-crore project that assured to provide power from the pithead coal project at Rs 2.39 per unit.

Jindal Steel and Power and Sterlite Industries were other two bidders. The former offered to supply power at Rs 2.69 per unit whereas latter bid the highest at Rs 2.97 per unit.
