LIC To Invest Rs 4,000 Cr In Stock Markets By March 2009With the intention to strengthen the volatile bourses, the public sector insurer Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has decided to pump in an additional over Rs 4,000 crore in the stock markets by March 2009.

Mr. T.S. Vijayan, the LIC Chairman said, “We have made investment of Rs 31,000 crore till December and it may cross Rs 35,000 crore (by the end of March).”

But, even the huge amount of fund infusion in 2009 is fairly less by the standards set by LIC itself.

The firm reported 53 per cent increase in net profit for the third quarter of current financial year. Ramakrishnan K S, Zonal manager, Andhra Bank said that bank expects business worth Rs 150000 crore by September 2010. The bank has initiated various measures to increase current account and saving accounts (CASA) deposits.

The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding in this regard at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit (VGGIS) in Ahmedabad on January 13.

The chairman of RPG Enterprises Group, Harsha Goenka said that the first phase of plant would be operational by May 2010. The state of Gujarat is also celebrating its foundation day on the same day.

The Congress in-charge of Uttar Pradesh affairs and party's general secretary Digvijay Singh said, "If Mr. Kalyan Singh now feels sorry for the Babri demolition and repents, and if this alignment leads to weakening the BJP, we won't have concerns."
