Kolkata: Tyre-maker Dunlop India Ltd on Sunday declared suspension of work at its Sahaganj plant in the Hooghly district, leaving the future of over 1,200 workers in uncertainty.

Maharastra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, who was in the controversy in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks, resigned on Monday.

"I have submitted my resignation letter to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. I have gone by my conscience and decided to take this step," Patil said on Monday.

"I pondered over the issue the whole night yesterday. Finally, I have decided to quit as per my conscience," Patil said.

After cutting short her visit to Indonesia, President Pratibha Patil will arrive on a two-day visit to terror-hit city on Monday evening.

During her visit she will take stock of the situation after the worst terrorist attack, the nation has witnessed and would meet the families of slain police officers.

Patil will visit the J. J. Hospital in Mumbai to enquire about the condition of those injured in the terror attacks, officials sources said.

She will also visit the Oberoi/Trident and Taj Mahal hotels besides Nariman House, the site of the terror attacks.

India's cricket tour to Pakistan has been called off in the wake of the recent Mumbai terror strikes.

The team was scheduled to leave for Pakistan on January 6 to play three Tests, five ODIs and one Twenty20 match.

This would be the third international cricketing engagement that has been cancelled in the recent past. First, the Aussies cancelled its tour in March-April and subsequently a Championship Trophy tournament was cancelled.

International cricket teams, including Australia, England and South Africa had refused to play in Pakistan citing security reasons.

Authorities in New Delhi have received an anonymous e-mail threatening to blow up the . This has prompted them to step up security by deploying additional forces inside and outside, said an official.

The information about the e-mail was passed on to higher officials of the CISF, which is handling security at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

The airport has been on high alert since terrorists struck Mumbai on Wednesday night.
