LIC announces investments in various segmentsThe Life Insurance Corporation of India announces its plans to invest in equities and corporate bonds in the next four months. The corporation would invest Rs 11,000 crore in stocks and Rs 20,000 crore in non-convertible debentures. Rs 15,000 crore investment is also proposed in debt offerings by country's largest investment institution.

UP millers to approach SC

UP millers to approach SCThe Allahabad High Court has rejected the writ petition filed by Uttar Pradesh Sugar Millers Association regarding the fixation of state advised price (SAP) by UP government. The bench of Mr. Justice Arun Tandon and Mr. Justice Dilip Gupta said that millers have no substantial reason to establish that the prices fixed by the state are illegal. Now, millers will have to pay a SAP of Rs 137.50 per quintal for the rejected variety of cane, Rs 140 for the general variety and Rs 145 for the early variety, as fixed by the government.

However, there are fewer chances to complete the process in time as 90 per cent of the investors are unlikely to tender their shares within the required time limit.  

Jet to pay 3 percent commission to travel agents

Low tariff air carrier, Jet Airways has agreed to pay 3% commission on airfares to travel agents. Earlier, air carriers had stopped to pay 5 per cent commission to travel agents from November 1. The decision has come after agents have stopped to sell air tickets of Jet Airways (India) Ltd. Other air lines including Kingfisher Airlines Ltd and state-run National Aviation Co. of India Ltd (Nacil) are expected to follow the suit in a couple of days.

SEBI to allow Exchange-traded bonds

SEBI to allow Exchange-traded bondsThe Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is all set to allow exchange trading in corporate bonds. The step is aimed to help infrastructure to raise low-cost funds which would have long repayment period. It would help to bring transparency in the corporate bond market and attract investors to invest in long-term bonds.
