Fresh Champions Trophy Dates Announced By ICC
The International Cricket Council (ICC) re-scheduled the postponed Champions Trophy to September 2009, and also decided to make a final decision on the location following India's tour to Pakistan early next year. The Champions trophy will now be played between 24 September and 5 October 2009.
Speaking on this, David Morgan (President, ICC) said, “The 2008 Champions Trophy has been postponed as you know. We now have a firm date with the final on the 4th October, 2009, reserve day for the final on Monday, October, 5th.”
Earlier, due to the security reasons, the Champions Trophy which was scheduled to be played from September 24 to October 5 this year, was postponed by ICC. The board has also decided that the tournament will be played out in just one city instead of being spread out in several venues.
"It was further agreed that because the event was reduced in duration (12 days including a reserve day for the final instead of the 17 days set aside in 2008), it would be played in one city." "The ICC board will make a final decision on the location of the event following India's tour to Pakistan in the first part of 2009 so that it can provide certainty to teams, broadcasters, commercial partners and other stakeholders.”
The meeting was led by David Morgan and was attended by Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat, the ICC Vice-President, Sharad Pawar as well as special invitees of the President and the ICC Principal Advisor, IS Bindra.
