FAW-Volkswagen plan to start Audi e-tron production in China in 2020

According to a media report from China, the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture apparently has plans underway to commence the production of the Audi e-tron electric car for the Chinese market from 2020.

The production of the Audi e-tron will be undertaken by FAW-Volkswagen at the Changchun plant in north-east China. The joint venture company is aiming at an annual production of 45,000 to 50,000 units of the e-tron at the Changchun plant.

Audi’s first purely electric car model to be produced in China will be the Q2 L e-tron. The manufacturing of the Audi electric car will be undertaken in China in collaboration with Volkswagen’s Chinese partner FAW.

Besides the start of production of the Audi e-tron in China in 2020, the Audi e-tron Quattro electric SUV will also be produced in the country from 2020. The plans for the production of Audi e-tron Quattro in China were already revealed to Auto Shanghai.

In addition, yet another Audi electric model -- the e-tron Sportback -- will also be manufactured in China. The production version of the e-tron Sportback will be officially presented by Audi at the Los Angeles Auto Show in the US in November 2019. The production of the vehicle for the European market is expected to start in 2020, at a Brussels factory.
