Diabetes Becomes Australia’s Chief Problem
Increasing diabetic problems had become the chief problem for Australian health officers because the figures had proved that 65 foot exclusions were related to diabetes difficulties.
Seeing the raised diabetic problems, the WA Country Health Service Pilbara Population Health unit and the Hedland Health Campus Dialysis unit, on 30th June, had planned a Care for Your Feet Day.
After several reports claimed that due to these complications, many dialysis patients developed the foot ulcers, they decided to plan the day.
Anushka Bandaranaike, WA Country Heath Service Pilbara Indigenous Diabetic Foot Program Coordinator accounted that their preceding Care for your Feet Day, educated many dialysis patients with the diabetic health learning.
She further advised that the diabetes patients obtain regular check-ups, wash the tops and bottoms of their feet, wear good fitting shoes and socks and if they suffered from the small injuries, then they should immediately visit the experts.
She added, “Surveying patients last year has paid off – this year’s participants were actively engaged in activities and interested to know when the next event will be held and the diabetes problems can damage nerves and blood vessels in the feet which increases the risk of developing ulcers and other infections and that can lead to amputation”.
