Delhi HC to hear Varun Gandhi’s anticipatory bail plea todayNew Delhi, Mar 27: The Delhi High Court will today hear the anticipatory bail application of BJP leader Varun Gandhi in an alleged case of making inflammatory and communal speech while campaigning in Pilibhit constituency.

On March 20, the court had granted anticipatory bail to Varun. He has got bail on a personal bond of 50,000 rupees.

According to sources, Varun has decided not to approach the court to seek an

extension of his anticipatory bail, and instead court arrest in the district headquarters of his constituency.

Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday dismissed Varun''s plea seeking quashing of an FIR filed against him for his alleged anti-Muslims remarks.

Varun had moved the Allahabad High Court on March 19 challenging the criminal case lodged against him on the directives of the Election Commission.

He claimed that the whole issue was created by his political rivals and was the result of a political conspiracy. He also claimed that the tape showing his alleged anti-Muslim remarks has been doctored.

Varun was accused of making inflammatory communal remarks at election meetings in his constituency on March 6.

The Election Commission issued a notice to Gandhi, charging him of violating the Model Code of Conduct for elections by making communal remarks.

Following the Election Commission notice, the Pilibhit police filed a FIR under Sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act.
